Hello, and welcome to the July 2015 issue of Word of Mouth.

With another National Smile Month behind us, everybody at the British Dental Health Foundation would like to thank the thousands of people who have supported the 2015 campaign. Your hard work and generosity to raise the awareness about the importance of good oral health has impacted on millions of people around the UK – we couldn’t have done it without you. Hopefully you had lots of fun taking part and we’ll certainly be back next year to celebrate 40… yes 40 years of Britain’s biggest and best campaign promoting healthy smiles.

In this issue, we take a look at another hugely successful campaign as the British Society of Dental Hygiene & Therapy launched its inaugural First Smiles, promoting healthy messages in schools across the United Kingdom.

We are putting out an exciting opportunity to become part of our wonderful board of trustees, and we also give our thoughts on the new sugar guidelines which recommend that we halve our intake.

We have summer advice in the form of sunbathing, as well as look into the effects of sauces at our summer barbeques.

We also uncover new research around skipping breakfast being linked to bad breath while we uncover that we might not be as open and honest about our flossing habits as we may think.

There’s much more in this (sugarfree) jam-packed issue, including some terrific guest blogs, featuring advice on getting into dentistry as a career, and guidance around sugary foods and drinks.
